Namebay is accredited since August 2007 for dotAsia domain names registration whose launching was fixed for October 9th 2007.
For this domain name event, Namebay provide you an eligible local presence (CED contact) for the non-asian registrants.
Our customer service will advise nevertheless in all steps, all those who want to obtain eligibility for their own contact.
Marketing goals of this TLD
The .asia is a sponsored Tld (sTLD), whereas the European one (the .eu) is a ccTld. All things considered, it is of the same type as the .cat (Catalonia), open a few months ago.
Although the .asia is intended to affirm a presence and an activity on the Asian geographical area, a thorough analysis marketing of this extension enables us to define 6 company profiles.
The first registrant's profile is obviously the asian company physically established in a country of the 37th dotAsia Community countries. This extension allows them to extend their presence outside their national market.
The second registrant's profile would be any company, physically established in asian countries, which will be able to affirm on Internet their universal presence in this area. As an example, it is obviously the case for multinational companies.
The 3rd registrant's profile would be any company which sell its products on the asian area, without being physically present there, via local partners or distributors; to be positionned on the asia market will enable them to promote their marks independently of the actions of promotion of their partners. As an example, we can evoke the traders of famous French wines.
The 4th registrant's profile gathers companies which search for possible Asian partners, with which they must deliver information on their products and their intentions. For example, it will be the case of small and medium-sized companies of food specialities.
The 2 other profiles are curiously those of all companies which will not aim the diffusion of their products and services on the Asian geographical area.
Indeed, the 5th profile would be any tourism company or local non asian companies which wishes to address signs to the asian market. It can be obviously tourism companies, hotels, restaurants.... Indeed, www.parishotel.asia will indicate certainly better to asian people that this hotel is organized to well receive them than www.parishotel.fr.
The last profile appear even more surprising, it would be the case of all companies which have not been able to reserve their wished domains on the main extensions (i.e.: .com, .net, .org, .info) and which will find, with the launching of the asia, a new opportunity to register them on an original extension, fastfood.asia.
Other profiles, which not hold any trade marks, will have to wait the complete launch of the extension, and the others will be able to use the local presence which we offer to deposit a .Asia domain name.
Eligibility conditions and local contact
The registry is called DotAsia Limited Organization. It is based in Hong Kong, Unit 617, Miramar Tower, 132 Nathani Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
To get its .asia domain name, the company, which make the request, must lay out of a contact within the DotAsia community. Registrant guarantees and represents this contact (called CED contact), but they are, all both, jointly persons in charge for the registered domain name, in particular in the case of complaint deposit.
The CED contact must be a legal entity. However, for the entities which do not have the legal personality (as in the case of a representation by a partnership), an individual can then be used like CED contact.
The CED contact will have to provide the following information :
- The company place
- The entity type
- The authentification documents
- The id number
The dotAsia registry can require from the registrants some others informations, or provide others documents to be in conformity with the eligibility charter. Registrants has 7 days to provide these documents. At the end of this period, the registry can cancel the request.
It should be noted that Namebay will be able to provide a contact that answers to the conditions of eligibility to those which do not have one.
Rules and calendar of the .asia
As the launching of the .eu and .mobi, the dotAsia registry set up a series of registration sunrises of the requests, on each period the eligibility constraints are gradually reduced. This aims to give the best chances to the holders of a priority right (a mark, a sign...).
The sunrises 1 and 2 for the .asia are held of October 9th, 2007 to November 13th, 2007 :
- Sunrise 1 (SR1): « Government reserved names » ; registration period is reserved for the governments belonging to the dotAsia community. The registration mode is the "first come, first served".
- Sunrise 2 (SR2): « Registered Marks » (i.e. trademarks and service marks), period reserved to the trademark holders. Only the word or the exact sentence indicating the mark could be accepted for registration, except spaces and punctuation. The registration mode is an auction system in the case of concurrent requests.
- Sunrise 2a (SR2a): Early Bird Sunrise (until 10/30/07) : the registration is reserved to the trademark holders registered before the 03/16/2004 and still used
- Sunrise 2b (SR2b): General Registered Marks : the registration is reserved to the trademark holders registered before the 12/06/2006
- Sunrise 2c (SR2c): Extended Protection : the registration is reserved to the trademark holders but the domain names can include additional words, for example, for the trademark "namebay" >> namebay-news.asia, namebay-reseller.asia, …
During the sunrises the minimal registration period is two years. Needed information for the sunrises deposits is :
- The name of the trademark
- The registration number
- The name of the trademark registry
- The date of the trademark deposit
- The trademark registration date
- The class of deposit
From November the 13th 2007 to January the 15th 2008
- Sunrise 3 (SR3): Registered Entity Names : During this period the registration is reserved to the entities registered in the community of Asia. The registration mode is an auction system in the case of concurrent requests.
February 2008 - March 12th 2008
Landrush : Applications for domains by the general public are accepted for this period, a local presence is required.
From March 26th 2008
On-going : Registration is opened for every body on a first come first served process, with a lower price.
Watch-up for auction : if there is more than one application for the same domain name in sunrise or Land rush, the registrants will have to take part of an auction to gain the name.
IDNs are not supported
dotAsia registry don't accept for the moment accentuated terms.
